my essay

People of Paradox

America is considered to be a great country because of its power. America has priority in the United Nations to approve its policies. Dollar in America can also influence the changing value of money in the world. Despite its power, America does not impress me. I dislike one aspect of American culture. I think America and its people are paradox.

I say “people of paradox” because I know some inconsistencies between their policies, their human rights, and their actions. Looking back through American history, Thomas Paine, an intellectual and the most persuasive rhetorician during the fight for American Independence, wrote propaganda to separate from England. He said,” We have boasted the protection of Great Britain without considering that her motive was interest not attachment; and that she did not protect us from our enemies and our account, from those who had no quarrel with us on any other account, and who always be our enemies on the same account.” (Paine, Thomas, Common Sense, 1776). This means that he influenced the separation of Americans from British. America did not want to be conquered again.

But why in World War I and World War II , America build Triple Alliance with England in the fight against Russia, Italy, Germany, and Japan? How could they have the same enemies and be allies previously if they wanted their independence? Those are some questions in my mind.this shows inconsistencies of their policies.

Once more, in America’s Declaration of Independence says that , “ All men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with inherent and inalienable right....” I consider this to be paradoxical too. I know how white people in America treated African-American. They treated them badly, cruelly. They employed them as slaves and whipped them when they made mistakes. Some masters also rapped the women and did not recognize their son. and daughter. They did that to breed cattle, in other words, to have cheap slaves.

Then, what happened in Iraq? Why did America fight against Iraq? There is not enough reason to fight against Iraq. Also how could they want to attack Iran? There is not enough evidence that Iran has nuclear energy to destroy the world. How about Afghanistan? They also attacked Muslims in Afghanistan. So how can American says that they respect human rights even though their actions are to the contrary?

In conclusion, I want to say that though America is considered to be a super power country in the world, they still have inconsistencies between their policies and their actions. Amerca should not participate too much in organizing other countries. They should respect human rights not only in their policies, but also in their action.
